Healthier Colorado is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization dedicated to raising the voices of Coloradans in the public policy process to improve the health of our state’s residents. We’re unique in our approach to moving the needle on public policy campaigns. We are the only health advocacy organization in the country that deploys the full range of political activity—from political giving, to grassroots organizing, to lobbyin, to running an in-house canvass to further our mission. We believe in the power of public policy and in the power of voters being informed participants in our democracy. Mixing politics and health is uncommon work, but we’re comfortable being a bit of a unicorn.

Position Overview
The Senior Director of Communications is responsible for developing the external communication strategy and leading the production of communications for Healthier Colorado and its associated brands, campaigns and projects to drive awareness, engagement, and the achievement of the organization’s strategic objectives. The Senior Director brings experience and knowledge of crafting proven marketing strategies to position Healthier Colorado for long term local, regional, and national success.

The Senior Director of Communications reports to the Deputy Executive Director and manages a team of two professionals plus contractors and vendors as needed.

Qualifications
Leading communication efforts for Healthier Colorado takes an experienced professional who is responsive, entrepreneurial, and driven to make change.  Qualified candidates will have experience in these areas:

Commitment to Mission
·       Commitment to the organization’s mission with an understanding of Healthier Colorado’s outreach and advocacy goals.
·       A deep interest in improving health across communities as well as in grassroots campaign and advocacy efforts as agents for change.

Leadership Experience
·       Strong, effective leadership, management, and organizational skills; proven commitment to high performance, superior quality in all products, and accountability.
·       Excellent judgment, integrity, and comfort with delegating responsibilities appropriately.
·       A preference for working in an environment that is collegial, collaborative, and focused on community impact with open dialogue at all levels and a high degree of responsiveness.
·       Experience with budget development and management.

Advocacy & Campaign Experience
·       Minimum of seven years of professional experience,in community organizing, electoral legislative or other advocacy campaigns.
·       Demonstrated success in campaign and/or project management and execution.
·       Demonstrated success in developing online activities and donors on behalf of a campaign or institution.

Media & Communications Experience
·      Experience in media/public relations, communications, and developing and implementing effective communications programs.
·      Experience building relationships with reporters and executing earned media campaigns.
·      Experience in implementing effective communications and campaign strategies and tactics with measurable impact.
·      Broad functional experience in areas of branding, integrated media, business development, and public opinion research with proven ability to deliver measurable results.
·      Experience in producing digital and print publications and communications materials.
·      Experience in creating, launching, and maintaining robust online initiatives including websites, blogs, and social media.
·      Adept at analyzing and interpreting data, using key metrics to guide business decisions and campaign strategies.

·       Decisiveness and a willingness to take appropriate risks.
·       Ability to identify opportunities, take initiative, and be adaptable and resilient.
·       Outstanding oral and written communication skills.
·     Self-starter; ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
·       Ability to handle multiple tasks/projects and meet deadlines.

Other
·      Undergraduate degree required; graduate degree preferred.
·      Experience and/or knowledge with health policy a plus but not required.
·      Proficient with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat, and Microsoft office tools; ability to learn new software tools quickly.
